Pastor John Claussen
I continue to praise God for my children and grandchildren. Not just because they are so important in my life, and not just because they give me such joy…but also because they are a never ending supply of sermon illustrations. Through the years their stories have helped me share the Good News of Jesus Christ with people from Iowa, Kansas, California, and even Kenya. It is always exciting to find the treasure buried in a fun story of someone’s life, isn’t it?
What is your story? Everyone has one. In fact, everyone has many, many stories. During worship we have heard some of your stories. And we will hear more and more of them. And my sermons during the season of Lent will be stories. Noah’s Story, Abraham’s story, and the Story of Moses. I can not wait to share the story of Nicodemus, and the story of Mary and Martha. Appropriately, on April Fool’s day I will be sharing the story of Judas. And then Easter morning will be the Greatest Story Ever Told!
Have you been looking at the stories of your life? Can you see the places where God has entered your story? (God is always part of your story) Don’t be afraid to share those stories with others. You will be surprised how many people have similar stories to share.
We need to be talking about God more. Plain and simple. We need to remind ourselves and others that God is always walking and working in our lives. And in the process, they will see the way God is walking and working in their lives as well. Tell your stories.
Oh, and invite someone to Church, so they can hear about some of the great stories of the Bible. And who knows…they may come to hear a story about Noah, Moses, or Nicodemus…and end up hearing a story about themselves and Jesus.
Sharing stories with you,
Pastor John
